Guide · for drivers and field workers
Your working day in Radial
From signing in to signing off: how to find work, get a route in one tap, work it stop by stop, and keep going when the signal drops.
Signing in
Open app.radial-app.eu on your phone or tablet. Enter the Email and Password your company gave you and tap Sign in. You land on your dashboard.
The menu is on the left, or behind the menu button on a phone. As a driver you see Dashboard, Route Planner, Schedule, Job Pool, My Jobs and My Hours. At the bottom of the menu you can switch between light and dark, pick a colour Palette (High visibility helps in bright sun), and Sign out.
If you see “Your session expired. Sign in again to pick up where you left off.”, sign in again.
Keep Radial open in one browser tab. With two tabs open, the app asks you to close one to avoid sync conflicts.
Your dashboard
The dashboard answers “what now?” at a glance:
- The top card shows your Current Job or Next Stop, with how many stops are done. When every job is finished it reads All jobs complete!
- My route shows today’s route on a map with a progress count. With no route yet, use Plan Route.
- Today’s Plan lists the next six hours. With jobs but no route, it shows each job’s time window instead so you can see how the day fits.
- A strip at the bottom counts Completed, Remaining, Total today and Distance.
The dashboard’s Start route button opens the Route Planner. The route itself is started there (see Starting the route).
Finding and claiming jobs
Job Pool lists the jobs the office has posted that still have room for someone. Each card shows the customer, address, how far it is from your nearest claimed job, how long it takes and whether you are Eligible. If you are not, it says why, for example a missing certificate or being out of range.
Narrowing the list
Search by title, customer or address, or open Filters: Cert match hides jobs you are not certified for, Within range with the Max travel slider hides jobs far from your claimed work, and the priority chips filter by urgency. Your own jobs appear only with Show claimed on.
Claiming a job
- Tap Claim on the card and confirm.
- The job moves to My Jobs and is yours to route.
You cannot claim a job that needs a certificate you do not hold, or one whose last place is reserved for another driver. Being out of range does not stop you. You can also claim from a job’s detail page (Claim job) or from its pin on the planner map.
My Jobs
My Jobs has two tabs: Active, your claimed work sorted by priority and time, and History, your finished and cancelled jobs. Pick a job to see its customer, schedule, required materials and certificates, and its protocol. From there you can also Release to pool a job you can no longer do, or use Add to route to fit it into today’s route.
Planning your route
Open Route Planner. The map shows your claimed jobs and nearby available work; the panel beside it is your day in order.
Suggest a route
- Check the Planning date and your start and end points at the top of the panel. The route runs from your start point to your end point.
- Choose what to include. Mine first (the default) keeps your claimed jobs in and fills spare time with open jobs. Only mine plans just your claimed jobs. All jobs pulls in any eligible job to fill the shift.
- Tap Suggest Route. Radial orders the stops to cut driving and backtracking and respects each customer’s time window: by default a job that cannot be done inside its window is left out. A job that needs a certificate you do not hold stays on the route only as a stop you pass through.
- The result is a draft, marked Unsaved. Tap Save to keep it, or Discard.
If something does not fit, a notice explains it: a job running late, a job whose window is not open that day, or a break that had to move. Each notice can be dismissed.
Adjusting the route by hand
- Reorder stops with the arrows or Move up / Move down, and take one out with Remove stop.
- Pin a stop in place with the lock toggle, so re-optimising does not move it. You can also lock an arrival time, for example a time you agreed with the customer.
- Change the Day window start or end and use Apply changes to re-optimise around it.
- Drag the line on the map to steer the route along a different road; Clear reshape undoes it.
Stops of your own
Under Add, a Personal Stop is a stop of your own, such as lunch or a pharmacy run. Choose a saved preset or enter a label and address, set how long it takes, and Radial slots it in where it costs least. On a computer you can also right-click the map and choose Add Personal Stop Here. A Depot Stop adds a visit to one of your company’s warehouses, for example to pick up materials.
Management sees your planned route, including where personal stops fall. Radial never shows anyone your live GPS position.
The shield button opens Privacy Settings, which are saved to your account. Share route with other drivers decides whether other drivers can see your route. Show personal stops decides whether your personal stops show their names to others or just Personal Stop.
Other settings for the day
Under Manage:
- Personal Stops and Anchor Points manage your saved stops and start and end locations.
- Break sets when your break may start and how long it lasts. Radial plans it in and suggests Split for break when a long job crosses it. The same dialog holds the Constraint mode: Soft keeps jobs that miss their customer window in your route with a warning instead of leaving them out.
- The vehicle button records which van you are taking that day.
- Materials lets you flag anything you are short of, so top-up stops can be planned where you run out.
Google Maps opens the route there for turn-by-turn navigation.
Starting the route
Lock route freezes the order once you are happy with it. When you are ready to leave, tap Start route. You can only start the route for your current shift; for a night shift that is the day the shift began.
Before the route starts you see a pre-flight check, Ready to start your route?:
- Unclaimed jobs on the route. With Claim eligible jobs for the day ticked, Radial claims them for you as you start. For a job whose certificate you lack, you can Mark as assist visit to go along without doing the certified work.
- Jobs that belong to other drivers. Tick I understand these stops will be display-only. to continue.
- Materials to bring. The materials your jobs need, with quantities. Tick each item as you load it. If you are running low on something, say how many you have so top-up stops can be planned.
Tap Start route in the dialog to begin.
Working the route
Once the route is started, the current stop has its own buttons:
- When you arrive, tap Start work. This records your arrival and starts the job.
- When you are done, tap Complete. Write a Protocol note (required) saying what you did, attach photos if useful, and check the Materials used list, which is filled in from what the job needed. Confirm with Mark complete.
- The route moves on to the next stop.
If you cannot do the job, use the cancel button on the stop. A note saying why is required. For a personal or depot stop, tap Mark complete when you leave. Stops that belong to a teammate show Pass through; you can Mark arrival and Mark passed.
Notes and photos
Every job has a Protocol, a timeline of what happened. Add to it at any time from the job page with Add note. Use Take photo for the camera or Attach for images, PDF or Word files, up to 10 MB each. Photos are resized automatically.
Asking the customer to confirm a time
On a job with a booked or proposed time, Ask customer to confirm sends the customer a link to accept or decline that time. Their answer appears in the protocol; it does not change the time by itself. This needs a connection.
Proposing a follow-up
If a finished job needs another visit, open it and choose Propose follow-up. Say what still needs doing, how long it will take, and when the customer is reachable. The office approves it, unless your company lets you publish follow-ups directly.
Pausing and return visits
Some work has to wait, for example paint that needs to dry between coats. On a job in progress, tap the pause button (Pause and return later):
- Enter how long to wait before coming back, and how long the next visit takes.
- Optionally name the next visit, for example “Topcoat”.
- Tap Pause & queue return. Radial re-plans your route around the wait and puts the return visit back in at the right time.
If you can finish after all, Resume on the job cancels the return visit and continues where you left off.
Working with teammates
Some jobs need more than one person. On such a job, Invite asks a teammate to join. You can reserve a place for them, and say whether you bring the materials.
Invitations and updates arrive in the team bell at the top of the screen. There you can Accept or Decline an invitation. An accepted job appears in My Jobs, ready to add to your route.
On shared jobs the job page shows the crew’s agreed start time. Use Accept time, or Suggest different time within the customer’s window.
In the Route Planner, Team shows your teammates’ planned routes on the map. Routes marked private are not shown.
Emergencies
The alert bell at the top of the screen tells you when:
- an emergency is nearby and nobody has taken it yet;
- an emergency has been assigned to you;
- one of your jobs was just escalated to emergency.
For a nearby emergency, Take it accepts the job and opens it. Add it to your route to re-plan the day around it. View shows the details first, and Dismiss hides the alert.
If a job turns out to be urgent on site, Escalate to emergency on the job page raises its priority.
Ending the day
Tap End route in the Route Planner. If some claimed jobs were never started, Radial asks what happened:
- I still have work to do takes you back to the route.
- I did not get to these releases them to the pool for someone else.
- I did these marks them as completed.
Then Your day shows the hours Radial recorded, with any gaps filled in from your plan and marked so you can check them. Correct a start or end time, Add a break if one is missing, and tap Confirm & sign off. Times past midnight keep counting, so 26:15 means 02:15 the next morning.
Missed it? Review & sign off your day in the Route Planner reopens the recap. Ending the day needs a connection.
Schedule and hours
Schedule shows your planned work by day, week or month. Tap an entry for its details, or a day in the month view to open it. Icons flag problems such as a missing certificate or a clash with an emergency. Export to calendar sends the plan to your phone’s calendar.
My Hours totals your worked time and breaks by day, week or month, and shows which days are Signed off. Open a row to see each day’s times and where they came from. To correct a day, use the end-of-day recap; the office can also correct and approve days.
Working offline
Radial keeps working without signal. The status chip at the top shows Online or Offline and how many changes are waiting. While offline you can still claim, start, pause, complete and cancel jobs, write protocol notes with photos, invite teammates and change your route. Everything is stored on the device and sent in order when the connection returns.
These need a connection:
- Suggest Route
- adding a depot stop
- Ask customer to confirm
- End route and the end-of-day recap
When a change cannot be sent
Sometimes a queued change no longer fits, for example because someone else claimed the job first. The chip’s count then turns to a warning colour. Tap it to open the Sync queue, and choose Resolve on the flagged item. Radial shows what you tried and what the server said, and offers the sensible options, such as retrying, keeping the server’s version, or discarding your change.
When a newer version of Radial is ready, you are asked to Reload. Do it when you reach a good stopping point.
